July the fourth is just around the corner, and if you are looking for a simple party favor idea for guests then you will love how easy these DIY 4th of July party favors are to put together.
These mason jar 4th of July party favors were so easy to make that I hesitate to even call it a craft. It was also an inexpensive project since I already had small mason and jelly jars as well as most of the supplies on hand.
The only things purchased for my DIY 4th of July party favors were the red and blue paper twine (purchased at Michaels) and the red, white, and blue M&Ms. I also purchased an American flag at Michael’s for $1 but then found them 3 for $1 the next day at Dollar Tree.
DIY 4th of July Party Favors Supply List
Supplies Needed:
Mason jars in assorted sizes with lids and rings (for this project I used a small jelly jar and wide mouth 1/2 pint jar).
Washi tape
Red & blue paper twine (available at Michaels and other craft stores)
Blue fabric (or you could use any fabric with a patriotic print that coordinates with your washi tape)
Holiday candy (I used regular and peanut red, white, and blue M&Ms).
Pinking sheers
Optional centerpiece:
1-pint mason jar or recycled glass jar
Washi tape
Leftover fabric
Star cut-out mason jar lid (These come 10 to a pack on Amazon so you will have extras for future crafts)
Small American flag
When it comes to quick and easy crafts, I just love using washi tape. You can find washi tape in a variety of patterns for all sorts of occasions. It’s also easy to work with and reposition as needed.
I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t have any 4th of July washi tape on hand but the red and white polka dot worked just fine, especially since I was able to incorporate all the colors for Independence day into the project.
DIY 4th of July Party Favors Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Wash and dry mason jars, lids, and rings (I washed mine in hot, soapy water and allowed them to air-dry overnight).
2 Wrap washi tape around the jar and around the ring. Set aside.
3. Using pinking sheers, cut the fabric in circles. You will want the fabric to hang over the jar so be sure to make the circle larger than the mason jar lid. I used bowls that were approximately 2″ in diameter wider than my lids and traced and used them to use as a template.
4. Fill jars with candy and cover with lid.
5. Center fabric over the lid then screw the ring over the fabric.
6. Tie the paper twine around the rim.
So there you have quick and easy 4th of July party favors to hand out to your guests!
Optional 4th of July Centerpiece
This centerpiece was so easy that it really doesn’t need instructions. I just added my leftover blue fabric to the jar, topped it with a star-cut-out mason jar lid and washi tape-wrapped rim then inserted the flag. The cut-out pattern in the lid is convenient because it holds the flag in place. I actually ran out of rings so I just wrapped the washi tape around the rim. However, using a ring will help keep the flag in place in case it gets bumped.
Tips:
If using chocolates then you will want to keep the party favors indoors so they don’t melt. Just put them on a pretty tray and hand them out with dessert or as your guests are leaving. If you are having your picnic elsewhere then keep them in an insulated cooler.
I chose 1/2 pint jars and jelly jars but if you have a lot of party favors to make then you can use smaller jars. Just make sure they are food safe. Baby food jars would work, but you will have to cover the entire lid with fabric or just opt to leave it off since you won’t have a two-piece lid and ring.
These fun party favors are great for all Patriotic holidays including Memorial Day and Labor Day. You can also change the colors and choose different washi tape designs for other holidays and special occasions as well.
